Have you ever wanted to work out, get fit, have fun, and make new friends in an awesome, uplifting environment? Sounds like utopia, huh?
My pick this month is one of my most favorite happy places. Reform Gym is a workout facility, located in Harrisburg, IL, that will straight KICK YOUR BUTT! I’m not kidding, even a little bit.
Reform is owned by Donetta Hayes, a super strong woman I’ve known for several years. I was so excited when she took on this venture and it has been so cool watching her business grow, but more so, watching women (and some men) transform their lives and health. Donetta is seriously so inspiring. Going to class when she’s teaching only makes you want to try harder and do better (except for those times when you want to say horribly mean things to her because she making you do MORE BURPEES).
The atmosphere is so encouraging because not only do the instructors want you to do better, but so do all the ladies around you. I have become really close to several ladies I at Reform and it’s amazing how much my attitude has changed since I started working out there. I LOOK FORWARD to stepping foot in the door every time I go. I can’t get enough.
Donetta’s goal when creating Reform 3 years ago, was to “offer something to women (and men) that eliminated the negativity, judgment, and self doubt of fitness and health.” She said she “wanted something that brought happiness to everyone who entered the door.” Her daily mission is “to make everyone that leaves my gym smile just a little bigger than when they walked in.”
Donetta acknowledges that many women who work out suffer from all types of forms of insecurities. Because of this, they hesitate to join a group class. Donetta stated, “I encourage only self love and confidence in every single person I get the pleasure of working with at my gym. I want to make sure my people know how amazing they all are.” She thinks we ALL need to hear that daily!
She sent this quote from a member that wraps all of this into a few words.
I recently read and analyzed 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” NASB
I like to think that I take pretty good care of my body. It’s hard to fit it in sometimes, especially for moms. You try to do a workout at home or hit the dreadmill, but there is nothing better than going to a gym and being around amazing, encouraging women and getting your sweat on. Some days are easier than others, but I ALWAYS leave Reform feeling better about myself physically and emotionally. My husband told me the other day that he could see a change in my muscle tone and strength. Y’all!!! That was like the most romantic thing to my ears!
Take care of your body. Maybe someone will see you honoring your body as the temple it is and come to know Jesus. Fitness can be that amazing common ground that you can use to do God’s work.
I highly recommend picking a class from this schedule and trying it out! Challenge for the week: Do something to start treating your body like a temple this week. This may mean something different for everyone. Maybe you exercise, but don’t eat right. Do one thing to change your eating for the better. Maybe you eat right, but don’t exercise. Make a choice and do something!
